"Write to Image Texture" Node

Proposal

A geometry node that dynamically updates an existing 2D Image Texture

Example of writing dynamic height map:

Write to Texture.png

Features

Evaluated in its own context, where "Position" represents its own 2D coordinate (probably UV coordinate), and would need nodes like "Raycast", "Sample Nearest Surface", "Sample Curve" to properly interpolate and write values from a target geometry to texture.

Value can be Float, Vector, or Color.

Most importantly, updated texture becomes available in material graph, as option for "Image Texture" node .

Shouldn't overwrite original texture, just available in addition to original. Could add bake button as well for permanent storage/overwrite capabilities.

Returns updated image that can be used downstream in geo nodes.

Great for heightmaps and environment artists who want to iterate without having to constantly rebake texture.

EDIT: Optional canvas input to add custom drawing to texture

Yes please! Also for sth like a pencil that draws on paper or other texture changes that shouldnt rely on the mesh density to get high res results

good ideas, I just updated it. I think Blender is meant to add more sohpisticated texturing system in future, with layering images and what not. Hopefully that could be incorporated
