NVENC support for VSE encoding
Blender's video editor is surprisingly good, and it feels right at home for me since I already use Blender for other purposes. It's one of the best video editors on Linux. The rendering time however is a dealbreaker. CPU rendering is just not good enough.
Please implement video-accelerated encoding, specifically NVENC, including AV1. It would make the editor much more usable.
Thanks!

Yes, GPU acceleration would be massive. AMD and Intel also have equivolent media engines in their GPUs these days. My Radeon 7900XTX supports hardware encoding/decoding of H.264, H.265, AV1, and more!
Also, IIRC it loads frames as you play, or you can pre-fetch the frames. This is great and all, but why not buffer the frames instead, so we can get smooth playback without pre-caching. A timeline rendering buffer could be useful as well. Another idea, err... what if we could get per-clip compositing nodes and compositing node groups that can be parameterized and copied to multiple clips? Would almost put Blender in the same class as Nuke...
I'm just spit-balling here! I think GPU acceleration is the first big step we need, but really, a mega release focused solely on reworking the VSE would truly be glorious! Could really use a competent open source video editor, and Blender has always been close but not close enough IMO.
Yeah I said NVENC but ideally all vendors' APIs would be supported :)
