Feature Request - LAZY LOAD ADD-ONS
My insatiable appetite for add-ons is making blender startup as slow as maya!
It would be cool to have an option in preferences where you can control which add-ons get loaded at startup and which are DEFERRED and instead of loading at startup, it just exists in its normal tab but with a single ACTIVATE button.
i know we can just turn off add-ons but i really like the idea of having the add-ons i have chosen as useful to me but not used very frequently to be "installed" but not necessarily loaded until i need it.
thanks!

There is a 'filter add-ons' option in 'Tool' tab in Properties Editor. Does this help? I never noticed any latency in my start up, I have like about 50 add-ons and Blender load in 5 seconds. The curious thing is, each workspace has its own 'filter add-ons' and it runs like a dream, even with all add-ons unfiltered
I've also a lot of addons (and a fast machine), but there's a very noticable startup time difference when having all addons enabled. Also they all take up memory.
I agree. Using many addons myself, which I all need and would like to use quickly when needed (but now all take memory/startup time), without constantly enabling/disabling them in preferences (also this is not even working atm, because when disabling an addon blender removes its settings).
To be clear, disabling an addon doesn't uninstall it. What you asks sounds really redundant from the current system, not to mention the workspace addon filtering system.

TS is not asking for uninstalling it. But disabling it to prevent it using memory/performance and startup time. Workspaces aren't suitable for this in many situations and is not an 'on the fly' workflow solution.
