Save raw render when compositing (improved workflow)

  • Add a path to save the raw rendered image when using the compositor.

  • Also a checkbox to "Disable re-render" and pull in the previously rendered frames instead.

This would improve the workflow for going back and forth between running the render, making adjustments in the comp, just running the comp, running the render again, etc.

(yes, this is currently possible with File Output & File Input nodes, re-routing a few connections and muting a few nodes every time you want to switch between rendering, and pulling in existing renders, but this proposal would make it much faster, simpler, and easier, especially when dealing with many channels)

The fact that Blender has both Compositing and 3D in a single file is very powerful and unique, however I usually find myself creating a separate .blend file for my compositing because the workflow between 3D and Compositing isn't well integrated.

Most compositors work with basic File Input nodes to bring in 3D renders, but Blender has the Render Layers node so you can essentially adjust and regenerate the 3D render before it is brought in. This could be a very streamlined workflow, but we need a simple way like this to toggle the node between regenerating the render, and re-using the existing render.
