Knife project normal (surface normal cut with curve)

Now i am doing project, that requires curvy cuts on bended surfaces, And one-point projection is not enough. Sometime I go inside mesh for better spherical projection, but it not always work well. So I forced to make mesh-line, then extrusion, then cut with boolean, then delete leftovers.

That is why I suggest cut-projection along surface normals. When line is drawn on surface or very close to it, it is anough to use shortest way from line to surface, as Shrinkwrap do. For complex cases (bumpy surface) it is not enough.

sounds like a bug (I tried it and it works for me)

* @no4me * not a bug. Try to project from side. Try to project wavy line, that surround sphere.

* @ Vyacheslav * I understand now.

  1. Knife projection works from viewport camera view.
  2. Curves do not have normals (as far as I know)

The feature you are describing is just boolean and it is what you should use. You can convert curve to an object and use it for boolean.

* @no4me * Surface have normals. Thanks for tip, now i figured how to do it faster. But it is still can be done faster with full automated process{attachment 9243155jpg}
