ability to edit string attribute

From what I understand, it's easy and convenient to manually edit feature attributes from within edit mode. I can do that with float or integer attribute types, unfortunately it looks like it's not possible when the selected attribute is of string type.

As I often manipulate cartographic objects to which I attach numerical attribute (and further use them in geometry nodes), it would be nice to be able to do so with strings.
