bpy.data.libraries.load() option to handle duplicates by suffixing existing data-blocks instead of appended ones
When appending data blocks via:
with bpy.data.libraries.load(filepath) as (data_from, data_to):
the data-blocks being appended will get suffixed (".001", etc) if the destination already has ones of the same type and same name.
It would be very useful to have a parameter that makes this work the other way around: keep the incoming ones' names intact and suffix the already existing ones instead.
I'm dealing with frequently appending updated materials and node groups, and having those automatically become the "canonical", suffix-less ones would spare me the work to track what their names have ended up becoming and switching them with their predecessors' ones.
