Takes/ State Saves for Blender
I would like to propose a feature to keep different variations(in material, lighting, camera, animation etc.) of a scene in the same blend file. Something similar already exists in other 3D applications such as Takes in Cinema 4D where a state of the scene can be defined and other child states can be created from that state with different properties. It basically records all the changes that have been made to the scene.
This can be really helpful for creating multiple iterations of something.

You can already do this. Click the plus button next to the scenes dropdown on the top bar. Make a full copy of the current scene as a backup and keep working.
@dpdpforlife:
I am aware of this feature, but don't you think it duplicates data unnecessarily. If I want to show a client 3-4 variations of the same scene with different lighting and materials, it doesn't make sense to make that many copies. Plus if I need to add something to the scene after the fact, I would have to add it one by one on each scene. I hope I am able to get my point across.
@devanshutak25: You can make linked copies as well. And when you add new objects to the scene, you can link that to other scenes pretty easily.
Takes is an amazing feature of c4d... This thing in blender would be really awesome:
