Grayscale viewport render

I recently stumbled into a situation where I realised it would be handy to preview my render in grayscale values. As far as I know there no option to do this in the viewport's rendered mode. I suppose the most straightforward way to include this is providing a grayscale option in the Color Managament tab. (I'll leave this to people more knowledgable than me in the internal workings of Blender.)

SOLVED: There is a pause button in the upper right corner to pause the rendering.. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I'm having the opposite, my render area in blender viewport is grayscale (left screen) but not the kind of grayscale I see in the comment before mine. How do I change this back to the actual render result preview? I'm as rookie as they get.. {attachment Schermafbeelding_2019-09-09_om_123148png}

Roadkill

Agreed. it would speedup preview renders on smaller screens in 2.7

There is option. Override material. And yes, filmic too. As 2D artist i can say, that proper grayscale can be made only over colored render: power of reflected light depends on color interaction.
