Greacepencill sugestions
OH first of all i dont want to sound negative, i'm amazed what greacepencil is becomming with 2.8 but i think there are some areas that could use some attention.
Problem, I noticed when working with greace pencil in layers and the blender oultiner menu. That new layers get added to the bottem (of a list of layers). It seams normal as in c++ coding a list got extended with another item so its added to the end.
Solution this is confusing for newbies, if you want to add things on-top of your current drawing it should also reflect that in the list of layers / outliner, to be on top there as well. As for the outliner in 2D mode add new collections on top. As for layer views, sort the view, display newest on top.
Problem obvious (repeating tasks for a 2d artist) are scattered over blender GUI. Solution combine more into the drawing view?
- the drawing view, why not add the sculpt icons to it, now you need to switch to another window just to smooth or punch a line.
- editing new materials and selecting materials, how about a material sidebar/bottem bar (ea correld draw has a color selector at the bottom ), we could have a group of materials there. When you need to frequently pick materials to current GUI requires a lot of clicks.
Problem Dopesheet doesnt time allign with other type of objects. In my last trial project i kept two time lines, for 3d and greace pencil. Solution instead of selecting a single dropdown type, one could enable types by icon clicks who then share the same dopesheet pannel. (as for GUI interface a strip of icons would take an equal size width as the current selector, their text can be in pop-over display.
General object placing rotation problems for newbies, i noticed that after a while that from camera perspective it all looked right, until i rotated in 3d, stuff was scattered around, unsure of what i did wrong. It might be handy to add a command/button "fix to camera view" with an additional option to turn camera in ortho mode (which you might select unless you got something 3d mainly with some 2d additions). It should apply rotations and and put it all to the grid centers Z (or Y) axis
Extensions
- have an option to turn text in greacepencil objects (so we can make it have a better cartoon look, by beeing able to aply the same kind of effects.
-Inkspace has a great tool to convert bitmaps to vectors, it would be great if blender used the same(opensource) plugin and made it drawing objects as well (sure i like the Wacom, but a lot of 2d artist are way faster with real pencil art).
outliner for 2d work with various objects each having their layers its confusing to which level one names stuff and make it clear, that object x is from outliner collection y. Collections can contain multiple objects and have several sub tree elements of object properties, eventually animations and layer, of the drawing object. It might be right but, but one needs to deep dive to findout to what something belongs too. Selecting wasnt alsways working straight forward, (perhaps some advanced selection option, or a improved outliner ? can it be made more clear ?
