Do not hide the backdrop image while isolating the selected
It may be worthwhile to create the "Not Hidden" option for objects so that when they are isolated, they remain visible.

Or include the backdrop into your selection before isolating it.
* @-L0Lock- * Working with small details, I make isolation approximately every 5-10 seconds, removing unnecessary objects from the field of view. It is extremely tiring to add an image to selected objects each time (especially since I make it non-selectable so that it does not interfere)
The biggest question is whether the workflow benefits of this idea outweigh the usability concerns that it presents.
Basically, unless there's a very clear way to indicate (and disable) a "do not hide me" toggle for objects in the 3D View, it can be a pretty frustrating experience trying to figure out why something isn't being hidden when you really want it to go away.
* @Jason van Gumster * In my opinion this is an obvious concept. Backdrop image is a reference or concept. It is part of the workspace and not the object of the scene. Thus, manipulations with objects should not affect it. Do you agree?
* @borschberry * I don't disagree that it might be nice to have persistent reference. I'm just not sure that a "don't hide me" toggle is the right solution to attaining that.
* @Jason van Gumster * I agree. Creating options that override other options is not a good idea. It may be worth making the ability to add reference images through the viewport settings, as in other programs.
