Recording Camera movement from a 3D Mouse

I'd like to see the cameramovement of a 3D Mouse to be recorded dirctly into the timeline. With a 3D Mouse I can move the Camera, as if I hold it in my hands (just more perfect). Why not recording this directly into the timeline in realtime? This would make possible the most professional realworld camera motion in a 3D environment.

Just press "Record", make your moves over a undefined period of time, with a defined framerate. And press stop, which defines the final length of the scene in the timeline. The camea is recorded to the scene and all the motion data has been written for it.

Just tested - nothing works. While the playhead runs, the picture just jumps wildly between the first keyframes's position/rotation and the new position that the 3D Mouse is sending. The new position/rotation data will not be recorded at all. I can only set manual keyframes with a 3D Mouse, which is lame. ...unless there's a secret that I've missed.

@softpack3: That's unfortunate. More power to you, then. Sounds like a great use for a 3D mouse if I ever heard one.

I don't have a 3D mouse myself, but I assume you can do this by turning on auto-keyframing and then pressing play. You can record animations live this way with a normal mouse, so I can't think of any reasons why it wouldn't work for a 3D mouse.

Of course, that doesn't cover the automatic timeline length adjustment, which sounds nice.
