Presets for nodes, like in the properties tab

Certain nodes like curves, color ramp etc could really benefit from a preset button like it is done with the output settings in the properties tab. I know I could save some frequently used settings as node groups and append them, but why not something like this? Could be present in the N-panel as well. Image

However I have a few questions:

  • Where will those presets be saved ? in the current blend file, or in the userprefs.blend, or in another file ?
  • If it is in the userprefs.blend, when should it be saved ? Directly when adding the preset, or only when saving the current blend file itself ?

@pcsd24: Good question. I played around a little with the output dimension presets and it seems, that they are saved automatically for now. I don't have to save the prefs or startup file for newly created ones to be there, next time I start blender.

In the long run I would really like to have something like a manager in the preferences, where one can edit presets and also quick favorites, like you can already do for matcaps, HDRI.. in the light settings tab.

I was just about to submit an idea for exactly this. I use the Blackbody node all the time and I was thinking "having a preset dropdown menu would be very handy" instead of looking up temps over and over.

cool yeah that'd be awesome. about @Pcsd24 's question, maybe it should save in user prefs unless you do a external data -> pack presets into blend or something?
