Switch material node
I would like a "switch shader" node. A shader node with many input to allow you choose the material you want. The good thin is you could make you're configuration on 1 viewlayer and other configuration on others viewlayers.

I'd expand that to a general "switch" node, would save the trouble of doing math node groups.
This exists in geometry and compositing nodes now as of 4.1, but not in the shader node tree. Upvoted.
It is possible using the Mix Shader nodes. I have strung together multiple node trees with several materials that can swap or even fade between each other. You just need to keyframe the mix shader to get the result you want at specific times.
Granted, I agree that a simplified single node with multiple inputs would be slightly simpler and convenient.
I will point it out that the Switch Node on the compositor is missing the exposed input of the “Switch” option. This limits the possibilities when creating groups and making Assets of them. imgur.com/krKIzqT
Ex: When working with light groups you could tweak the exposure, tint, all everything else at. And at the end of the node tree, add a switch to turn on/off the Denoise to turn the process of editing lighter. Then you pack this into a Group and make an Asset. imgur.com/KEKeHEQ
