Screen only LUT (or icc profile implementation) for proper color management in wide gamut displays

Right now the only option to have proper colors on screen is adding a new display type in config.ocio, but this also influences the output file.

It would be nice to have blender read the icc profile of the monitor and automatically correct its displayed colors to adapt its sRGB output to a wide gamut display.

In alternative, the possibility to load a LUT applied only to the image on screen and not to the file output would be also acceptable.

Another possibility would be different color management sections for screen and output in the render properties tab, but this is far less preferable as it would be confusing for the average user.

Is any one of these options possible to implement in Blender?

a solid color management workflow between blender and photoshop (sRGB) is urgently needed. rendered images on a wide gamut display with common photoshop settings (sRGB, Adobe RGB ...) differ greatly from the rendered image in blender. a huge problem on mac also! apple studio display (XDR Display P3), macbook pro M1 (XDR Display P3).

Proper color management would be desirable, and should be implemented in the same way as for example adobe apps, and other graphic software, aware of (hardware ) calibrated monitors, and have the option of reading image color spaces, as well as outputting to different color spaces. sRGB is a bit of a poor option nowadays. i don't consider it as complicated if you work with images, on the contrary, proper color management is vital for anyone working with images seriously. I use for my still images ProphotoRGB and AdobeRGB, and decide the output color space depending on the display medium.

A) you can just write a render script where you disable and enable the ocio config before and after renderin. thats what i did for the last year or so. that would only be like 5 lines.

check my scrpit here , everything commented and easy to understand github.com/Ulf3000/blender-render-to-ffmpeg/blob/main/render_eevee_viewport_animation_without_ocio_to_ffmpeg.py

B) ocio transform in blender eevee is a bit off , its a preview quality i´d say. i dont know how well cycle handles it becasue i never use cycles

C ) SOLUTION

i guess you have an nvidia card , then you can use this tool :

github.com/ledoge/novideo_srgb

it reads your icc/icm profile and applies it to EVERYTHING on the monitor. Its a real bliss as every app and the desktop become colormanaged.

my favorite painting prog, clip studio paint, isnt color managed , the affinity apps didnt have colormanagement on the colorpalletes. My favorite filebrowser/commander didnt have colormanaged preview pains and so on.

All my favourite apps are upgrade now lol

Davinci resolve correction lut for display makes the playback quite choopy and uses some energy..

this tool uses no cpu or whatever, everything is done on the gpu and my gpu meter doesnt change a bit between enabling and disabling it.

i only recently found this tool.
