Split "Save Default startup file," into multiple options

Currently the only option to save defaults is "Safe Default Startup File," which saves everything in the .blend file exactly the way it is for startup, from 3D meshes, to collections, to materials, etc.

Often times I'm halfway through a project when I have the thought of "I seem to be changing [thing] a lot, I should probably set it as default," however I can't immediately do that without saving everything in the project as default as well.

I would propose either 2 solutions:

  1. The File > Default menu has a couple more options
    • Save Startup File (Same as what is already there)
    • Save default 3D scene
    • Save Default UI layout
    • Save Default UI values (Number fields, checkboxes, etc.)
    • Save Workspaces as Default (Saves workspace tabs, as well as workspace layouts).
  2. More complicated, but add a "Set as default," option to most of the right click menus for number fields, dropdowns, checkboxes, etc. This would be a lot more customizable than #1, but might be a programming headache.

Hey I wrote about this exact issue and I'm very much in favor of your Startup spliting proposal. Currently is unreasonably difficult to setup and maintain workspaces with several addons each. blender.community/c/rightclickselect/5ygbbc/

seems feasible, they already had to do this with user preferences. prior to 2.80 everything was in the startup blend file, but they split out user prefs earlier this year.

* @testure * I think you could save the userprefs separately from the startup file all the way back to 2.5, or at least somewhere soon after that.
