Scene Preset Templates

(Edit: Nevermind. It's actually already there, pretty much - please see Answer below.)

Summary :

At startup a Scene Template Selector for the default scene that is loaded when creating a new Scene

Problem :

Since scene settings are saved within a Blender File rather than system Settings it's a little inconveinient to replace (or load and replace from a folder) the startup scene for every time you want a default scene to come with specific settings.

Idea :

Either in the Startup dialog or when creating a new Scene With Ctrl-N there could be a selection for a base Scene setup for the new scene. The scenes can be saved in a dedicated folder just like you would if you'd do this manually. Just that you don'T have to go the extra steps to navigate to the folder, select a scene and load it. The dialog should also save the last opened scene preset.

An example for a scene setup type would be this: Say, you are creating small objects like jewelry for 3D printing and don't want to setup your standard layout every time you start a new scene. After that you have to create models in a larger scale for renderings again so you need to set up your file acordingly in all the different settings in the world and grid settings at different places in the scene.

These scene templates could also include a base head for sculpting or presets for materials you are sure to use in a certain situation. I mean - you get the idea, here. ;)

Oh god ... nevermind. Sorry. It's pretty much there, already. In the ".\scripts\startup\bl_app_templates_system" Folder you can create a new Folder containing the .blend file with a scene setup. It will show up in the Ctrl-N Dialog with the name of the folder the .blend is contained in.

It maybe could be incorporated nicer into the UI, maybe with a 'Save as Scene Template' Dialog or browser menue but it's there.

Maybe I'll still leave this open for discussions, if people want this incorporated into the UI or come up woth better solutions. Actually I think not much more than a "Save as Startup File" and a "Delete Startup file" dropdown selection entry might be needed here.
