vertex crease weight and crease sets.

It doesnt seem possible to maintain an objects sharp outline using subdiv modelling in blender without leaving harsh edges where it should be smooth, or without manually modifiying topology.

This is caused by having to crease internal edges to keep sharp details on the border.

A solution would be to allow crease weight on vertices as well as or instead of crease edge weight, similar to how 3ds max works with opensubdiv:

Additionally, some way of storing crease sets would be really handy. As it stands currently, you tweak an edge, but then cant really tell what's what and what strength it has assigned to it. So a method of storing the various edges along with their weight would be great. This would eliminate the need to manually select edges again for tweaking...you'd just tweak a value in an crease sets menu (could be placed below the vertex groups in the object data panel. Something simlar to this:

Hi, vertex creasing is now supported. You can try it out in the latest Blender 3.1 Alpha build . Crease sets are not supported at the moment.

CREASE SETS !

I wonder if this will be implemented in the future.

Yup.. today i noticed this missing feature :( One way is create extra vertex (extrude corner vertex) but it only makes sharp corners (not possible to changes sharpness level) :(

Maybe opensubdiv will add this possibility for blender in near future?

bump! this is a big deal. Especially if you are working passing assets between maya and blender, since maya has full support of this. It would be great if we could have vertex creasing!

dont know why this idea isnt more popular. In Cinema 4d and Blender edge creasing is half assed implemented.

* @Sbarcea Stefan * yep, such a shame. Blender is miles ahead in lots of modelling workflows, but it's really dropping the ball here.

maybe better than adding a seperate crease sets menu would be to add a dropdown to the vertex groups panel, so you could select what type of data it displays. For example in the dropdown you could have options for , creases, sharps, bevels. And then add an edge groups panel just below the vertex groups panel so both edges and vertex weights could be stored seperately.

Probably would be better to not be able to store multiple values in one group though, better to have one value per group, so you could tweak multiple edges/vertices at once without having to select them in the 3d view. To keep the functionality they could be children of a master group so that the one group could still be used various places throughout blender (such as modifiers for example)
