Improved basic Scale function
Hi all.
Scale we use today is simple with your current dimension and a scale coeficient. But if you don't know the coeficient but final dimension, it is a problem. For example is you want to scale your box or line width from 2.10 to 3.68. you have to count a coef.
My suggestion is that you can be able to write a final dimension in addition to coeficient.
It is a basic math - X (current) * Y (coef.) = Z(final dimension). where you have an X and you write the Z instead of Y.
What you you think about that?

To answer Jason and Joseph -
You have a box of some size you want to make it 40x40x40cm.
For example - You press - S > D (for dimension let's say) and then 0.4m. Or only one axis - S > X (for x axis) > D (for dim) > 0.4m. The workaround would be to input 0.4 in sidebar (N) but it doesn't respect pivot point as i can see for now.
Second way would be to pull the gizmo in one direction but again to input dimension you want, not a coeficient.
* @db * I definitely like anything that gives Blender more precision. This will probably be easy to create a tool for once 2.8's Python API is frozen and documented... I think the plan is to support custom viewport widgets for addons, which could be used for making UI tools.
Where would the user give this input?
* @Jason van Gumster * For example when you press S for scale new option would be "D" for dimension input. Like tool option ( "Z" for cut through in Knife tool, for example)
This is already implemented, at least for object scale. It isn't clear what kind of scale you're referring to... do you mean dimension as a part of the tool? Or a new tool that scales by dimension? Tools, of course, being available in any mode.
* @Josephbburg * I meant new thing - input dimension as a part od a scale tool. Not new tool. Check the answer above. I hope I explained well.
yeah, this usually happens when you work by volume blocking and then detail the assets with real sizes.
