curve edit - merge / rip curve points

The curve edit mode needs some love. It needs some basic features like:

Important

  • merge / join / collapse points
  • rip point
  • add point on segment by clicking anywhere on line segment
  • move point by edge slide (similar to mesh edit)

desirable:

  • bevel at point makes a rounded corner with two bezier curves (works similar to mesh edit bevel)

And also edge selection!

Yes the lack of merge is appalling.

In the meantime, I use the following sequence:

  • Select the points to merge
  • Use Make Segment (F)
  • Select one one the points
  • Use Dissolve Vertices (Ctrl+X)

It would be cool if ctrl+R gave you a slideable 'segment' vertice for UX consistancy, for now you might have to make do with vertex subdivide.

Totally on board with a merge vetrices function for curves seems strange thats not there.

tempory work around: github.com/Lichtso/curve_cad -this might have other functionality you are looking for as well btw.

Edge sliding, im not seeing the functionality of that too much tbh but for completionist sake it seems worth considering.

And the bevel sounds cool! but again that creates all kinds of strange normal problems that makes use case limited i'd be intrested to know what you were thinking of useing with that?

You can rip a vertice by selecting the area of the curve and pressing S which will 'split' it, or P which will 'seperate' it to a new object. I think that covers those functions.

also sevond yasharjk edge selection would be cool. again I think the most important missing functionality here which would genuinlly speed up a lot of workflows would be mergeing points.

Thank you for the reply! I will check out the addon, I didnt know about that one.

Regarding the 'split' command that is currently in blender: the user is limited to cutting out a segment, while in most cases (for me and probably many others) it would be more desirable to have a tool that can split/cut only at a certain point. Achieving this result, lets call it 'ripping' a point, is currently achievable in Blender but requires multiple commands which is not very efficient and cumbersome.

edit: the fillet tool is actually in the addon you recommended, really nice :)
