parallel midpoint snapping indicator aside from the current snapping indicators (useful guide tool for more precise modelling)

Hello guys. I would like to propose an additional feature inside blender's snapping system. I have observed that the snapping tool doesn't have an indicator to which will guide the user if the active object is along the axis of a certain objects midpoint. The purpose of this feature is to have the ability to know if you are moving your object along each midpoint of the objects axis which is different with the current feature which requires the user to point out the snapping target or drag it along the area where snapping is enabled. Both of this features are useful and I believe they would work out together if implemented.

When it comes to complex shapes like human head the snapping would be basing its snapping data with the objects bounding box .

I hope we can add some features similar to this.

Thanks.

It has been a topic on the dev board for about a year now, here: devtalk.blender.org/t/discussions-for-better-snapping-and-precision-modeling-to-come/5351 . Hopefully more precision modelling tools will be implemented sooner rather than later, they are definitely needed.

* @Faruk Ahmet * I am already aware of it. I may have to post this proposal in that discussion. Thanks for the link.

* @johnpdelacruz26 * that would definitely be the place to post it since that's where all the discussion is having. otherwise the dev may not even see your proposal until he's finished with his features (if at all)

* @Faruk Ahmet * I have a feeling that all the tools you need to do precision modeling are in Blender, but I just don't know how to use them. Sometimes I have trouble with precision modeling like snapping to tangents, inferencing (I'm used to SketchUp inferencing), etc. Not sure if I just need to watch more tutorials or if they need to add more snapping tools or modify the snapping system.

* @BlenderSplendor * What specific task do you want to achieve? There are few improvements in the snapping already especially in the latest 2.90 release.

  • Tangent snapping for curves
  • Snapping orthogonal vertex extrusions onto non-orthogonal faces or edges
