render into the blender file ! i cant imagine why this great feature fell under the radar

can we render an image sequence into the blender file ? we can save all textures in the blender file so why not render directly into the file ?

fact of the matter is , even with the realtime compositor you CANNOT create the final compositing which takes all grading and aditional post effects into account -> compositing is needed for almost every slightly bigger scene. it would be nice if we dont need to render tons of files into tons of folders but actually render them into the blender file and use a final scene to composite them and make them look as good as possible ( that includes fake blurs, smears, grading, exposure and hue animation and so on, the typical stuff)

Not everything can be packed to begin with. Packed Data — Blender Manual

To me, rendering frames into the blend file sounds like a recipe for disaster.

  • Rendering is a risky task that can crash. And if you crash right when you are saving the blend file with a new frame: you might corrupt that blend file, and with it your entire project and rendered frames.
  • You will have a ridiculously heavy scene file
  • " we dont need to render tons of files into tons of folders " : for that you can render as a video file. I wouldn't recommend it because it's safer and easier to work with frames, but that's up to you.
