Add Vertex Group support to Line Art modifier for easy edge exclusion!!

I am literally begging the devs to add Vertex Group support to the Line Art modifier! Right now, adding lines is a breeze—you just mark an edge as "Freestyle" or "Sharp" and you're good to go. But trying to remove or exclude lines from a specific area is a total nightmare. For example, if I want to clear the lines from a character’s eyes (see Pic 1), I have to go through this ridiculous workflow: 8d47327f10e2c1360213723b774a4567.png

  1. Manually mark the area as "Freestyle Faces" (Pic 2).

(Pic 3). 68c5a480-9416-4cc7-8b5a-a841e13f4d93.png 4. Only then do I get the result (Pic 4). da47a468-d374-4682-b179-04553c61a453.png This is way too convoluted for such a common task. If we had a simple Vertex Group influence/masking option directly in the modifier settings, it would streamline the NPR workflow significantly and save us so much clicking. Please consider this! It would be a massive life-saver for anyone doing stylized rendering.

Hello, folks!

I've just watched this new Dikko's tutorial (at the bottom); it's great! Though the Target Vertex Group results are achieved employing a secondary Grease Pencil Object Modifier (the Thickness Modifier) following the Line Art Modifier, this seems like a decent workaround and alternative method to what you are proposing; I mean, it should be mentioned.

Hence, a solution already exists, with a Target Vertex Group for better control over GP Line Art; it's just not in the Line Art Modifier itself as of yet apparently, while it could be (I believe it could be: it would be a bit simpler and intuitive... but it would probably 'ruin' a bit of the value of the Thickness Modifier as a consequence; so, that's not so easy decision).

Maybe, you should update the proposition with more contextual information about the problem, the alternatives, and why should there be improvements.

Here is the tutorial: youtube.com/watch

I believe granting Blender yet another alternative to augment creative possibilities of Line Art making is a good thing.

Currently, the Line Art Modifier has got plenty of Options, but most are very obscure; so, there are certainly improvements to be conceived and developed on the features, new features, new interactions, and how they work (including UI-friendly).

This Feature Request would contribute to this process.

Well this certainly is worth looking into. Not very hard to implement. I can try doing this.
