snap - face project with rigs, should NOT project onto its own geometry

Using face project can be really useful to position models or bones in a certain place. For example placing a hand on a table.

But if you do that, it will actually start to project onto it's own character model, which results in the bone getting closer and closer to the camera.

When working with bones this should not be the case

It looks like there is exclude non-selectable option in pose mode. Maybe you can disable selection for the character geometry.

This looks more like a bug than a feature request.

If the issue is indeed that it's snapping onto the rig's geometry and there's nothing in Blender to prevent that from happening, this can be considered as "not a bug" because "expected behavior". Even though it's not desirable.

if it's never been an intended feature before it isn't a bug. Regardless what we call it i want it to change for the better )
