Pie menus are unusably slow in complex scenes
I like the pie menus in Blender 2.8, but the UI animation of the pie menu often takes a second or more to show up when I’m in a complex scene, especially in rendered view.
Is there a way to either:
- Speed up the pie menu animation during complex scenes (perhaps by pausing the render temporarily)
- Failing that, just to disable the animation when the scene becomes too complex to run it smoothly?

Hmmm... In Unreal Engine if viewport fps is to low it propose to scale down graphic quality settings ( of course if not tur on checkbox " don't show it again ").
Blender may have some setupable list of features ( like this one
PIE Animation) somewhere inSystempreferences tab under someOptimizationsheader. And this features can be automaticalu turned off when fps is drop below some setupable lewel?Because Blender is free it used by lot of people with wooden/potato PCs.... I suspect such auto optimizations can be helpful.
* @forestgumpovu4 * Wouldn't that require Blender to be rendering / in playback mode first? I don't think Blender looks at FPS while not rendering, simulating, etc though I could be wrong.
If this is doable then 100% this could be very useful! I'll look around to see if Blender reports the fps somewhere without displaying it.
edit: yeah I don't think it does this. The second option would be to implement a continuous check to see how long it takes for the script to finish, assuming it is affected by the performance. I'm not really a programmer but this is what I could come up with. (Perhaps I'm missing something obvious?)
How would Blender automatically know when a scene is too complex for it to run the pie menu animation? This would depend on the computer, the scene and many other tiny variables that you can't really account for as far as I can tell. Because of this, I'm not 100% sure this is doable personally.
What you can do is manually set 'Animation Timeout' to 0 (by default 6) to make the pie menu have no animation and pop up instantly in cases like these where you are working on heavy and complex scenes.
It is located in Edit -> User Preferences -> Interface -> Menus -> Pie Menus
Take into consideration that if your computer is under heavy load, it could still lag behind a little bit, same with every other action you'll attempt to do. At least you wont have to wait for the animation though!
I personally like keeping mine on 300 ;^)
Hope this helps!
* @MizManFryingP * pfff it's better without animation anyways. gotta go fast
