MODO Render Groups to store data and batch render
Hi everyone, my idea comes from a MODO tool that makes up for 50% of my workflow in modo and is not present anywhere else with so much potential.
MODO has the so called render groups and passes (which are not render outputs like AO, zDepth, its an entirely different thing).
In these groups and passes you can store specific changes to the scene that will be recorded only within that pass, and will allow you to combine multiple groups to achieve an infinite amount of combinations. I'll make a practical example:
Group: Material Material pass1: Blue Material pass2: Red Material pass3: Green
Group: Geometry Geometry pass1: Sphere Geometry pass2: Cube Geometry pass3: Cone
Group: Lights Lights pass1: Light above Lights pass2: Light below Lights pass3: Light front
Group: Camera Camera pass1: Camera A Camera pass2: Camera B Camera pass3: Camera C
By selecting all of the groups and combining them I'll get a new group which will contain all the combinations, for a total of 81 render passes, each one containing a combination of the aforementioned groups.
I can share a video if needed, its an extremely helpfull feature that allows for customization of light settings, materials, batch render cameras, render settings and so on. Every setting can be stored in a pass, even multiple settings in a single pass, and allow for total control over your scene and a "inhouse" tool for batch render.
I recorded a video to make this maybe easier to understand: youtube.com/watch

What do you miss in Render layers? Yes, video will be better.
I realized 4 years later someone replied to my post.. Here the video: youtube.com/watch
