Render Animation Progress Bar

When you use Render Image (F12) you get a great progress bar for the image render in the status bar. On a Mac, at least, the dock/taskbar icon also shows the image render progress. Great....

However, when you use Render Animation (CMD-F12 or CTL-F12) you repeatedly get the same image render status progress bars. There's no indication as to how far the overall animation render has progressed.

What would seem useful would be to have additional progress indicators for the overall animation progress.

In the status bar it would be nice to draw the render animation progress next to the frame's render image progress.

For the progress indicator in the dock/taskbar icon, if I had to choose, I would prefer to see progress for the overall animation render and not just each frame. If I could get both in the icon (maybe one stacked over the other w/ different colors) that would be ideal.

I haven't checked if there are hooks that would make this possible from a script or add-on.

Thoughts?

Yeah, when rendering animation there needs to be better progress status messaging.

You can hover your mouse cursor over Blender and your mouse cursor becomes the frame # it's currently rendering. But yeah, a progress bar would be neater.

I think that the main reason that it's not implemented is that for it to work, it should have an approximation of the render complexity over time, because first frames can be really fast to render (no characters in the scene for example), and then the animation begins to get more and more complicated and long to render. I don't know if such an approximation is that easy to implement, the idea behind this render animation progress bar is far more complicated in my opinion than the visual result that it shows.

I don't think it needs to be super precise in terms of time, simply showing a percentage of the number of frames rendered out of the animation total should be enough.

E.g. rendering frame 50 out of 250 frames = 20% progress

That should work yes !

😂😂

It's simple math yyes. there's also addons that do this, capitalising on the fact that blender will not somehow. the progress bar is relatively useless and with 4.2 I cant even seem to see what number of frames it even rendered lol
