Dissolve functionality in Delete Geometry Geometry Node

This feature has already been proposed but we need to push it to Hot Page because the last time it was proposed it wasn't clear what this feature is and how it can be implemented.

So, there are two ways to remove geometry (you can see them when pressing X in Edit Mode): Deleting geometry and Dissolving geometry. There's a picture to show the difference between two planes with deleted and dissolved vertices: 1.png You can delete geometry using Geometry Nodes but you still cannot dissolve it. So there's an idea how dissolving feature can be integrated into Delete Geometry Node. 2.png

Dissolving geometry is extremely common in mesh editing, it is astonishing the feature is not available for geometry nodes. It is a very powerful feature and I miss it every other GN project.

It is surprising this feature wasn't even mentioned by GN developers, it should be a major one.

I think this should probably be a separate node, but the functionality sounds useful!

I wonder why this is so hard.. In my view, this is the most fundamental deficiency in Geometry Nodes. I have run to issues caused by this already many times, even though I have used Blender only for few months.

I'm migrating from Modo, and many of my procedural set-ups just can't be reproduced, or needs convoluted workarounds, in Blender because of this shortcoming.

While a go I had some conversation with a dev, who has a working dissolve for edges. But, he doesn't want to implement it as it is not as good as it should be by his own standards. I assume the results are not perfect in every case, and/or performance could be better.

I would rather take Dissolve with some minor issues, than nothing at all. It is an essential modelling operator.

Agreed. I am trying to dynamically add geometry to a mesh for displacement reasons and this functionality would allow me to do that in a way that is quite efficient

YES, this would be extra-useful!

Working on something right now that I could totally use a dissolve feature with. I've spent four days trying to figure out how to solve my way around the absence of this feature.

Especially the dissolve Edge is going to be sooo much usefull!

This would be really useful. I'm migrating from Modo, and really like Geonodes, but these kinds of missing basics really amazes me.

Yes please. I spend a lot of time optimizing foliage for realtime use, and this would be super duper helpful

This will be useful for creating LOD meshes for games in a non-destructive way. I could have the hero asset (LOD0 as it's usually called) and then a couple instances of it with a Geometry Node modifier that deletes the edge loops I manually mark on LOD0. This would allow changes to LOD0 to propagate through the other LODs with minimal work.

For that matter, a Decimate Geometry node...
