Image editor as VSE viewer
I think that using the Image editor to display the result of the VSE could have some pros:
- having the mask editor available directly in the same window
- better scopes and waveform
- left side toolbar available for better custom tools integration
Along "Render Result" and "Viewer Node", a new image could be "Sequencer View".

The idea of unifying different editors functions by similarities in one is very good!
Thats a good Idea, or even another option would be using the Movie Clip editor for that too!
I like this idea, having a space to preview VSE separate from other previews is confusing for new users.
Rather than overload the Image Editor (which has already had to be decoupled from the UV Editor), why not add functionality to the Sequencer's viewer?
* @Jason van Gumster * Yes, or improve sequencer's viewer of course but is the UV editor and Image editor really different editors now? I'm not sure, they're using the same code basis, and update it will bring improvement on both editors.
The only problem I have with the Sequencer's view actually is the inability to draw and animate masks easily. Made some scripts to send strip to movie editor with the right frame offset etc, but this is not ideal.
* @Vincent Girès * I bet your scripts make it easier too. Did you know that you can just hit f12 and render a frame to the Image editor then build the mask to be used in VSE? Not immediately interactive but quite good.
* @David McSween * good trick. never though using it that way!
