Enhancing Node Editors Experience
Dear Blender Developers,
as an artist who heavily relies on Blender's Node Editors, I would like to express my appreciation for the power and versatility these editors offer. However, I believe there is great potential for further development and improvement to make them even more efficient and user-friendly.
Currently, the Node Editors offer only three categories of tools: Selection, Annotation, and Razor. While the Razor Tool helps with quick cutting, I find it imbalance to miss a tool to quick connect. Although we have the Lazy Connect and others feature in the Node Wrangler Add-on, which is fantastic for speeding up node editing tasks, I believe there's an opportunity to enhance this experience further.
My proposal is to introduce dedicated tools for specific tasks within the Node Editors. Here are some suggestions for potential tools that i can think of for now:
- Connect Tool (Shortcut Q): Allowing users to quickly connect nodes by just dragging "LMB".
- Mix Tool (Shortcut C): Simplifying the process of mixing nodes together by just dragging "LMB"
- Preview Tool (Shortcut P): Streamlining the process of connecting nodes to the output/preview node. Users could then quickly through the nodes to preview the progress efficiently.
- Drag Tool (Shortcut D): Allowing users to drag every other node that is connected to the active node, streamlining node arrangement.
The primary goal of these dedicated tools is to enhance the overall efficiency of node editing, especially within the context of the Everything Nodes Project.
While i respect Blender's shortcut-heavy signature, I believe introducing these tools would provide a more streamlined and accessible experience for all users, regardless of whether they use the Node Wrangler Add-on.
Thank you for considering this proposal, and I look forward to witnessing Blender's continued growth and success.

I though that this was always a plan, but just nobody implemented them so you could just do PR already if You implemented them properly.
Overall i really like this proposal and i upvote it! And if you dont mind, may i ask you why that "Drag" has to be a tool? Why not make it as a toggleable option?
Well, that's just my rough thought on tools like in 3D Viewport and UV/Image editing tho. To make it toggle-able option makes more sense.
