Flags for proposals.

We need Flags for ideas that indicate status of potential development. Will be great to see if developer is interested in working on task. Part of ideas will be implemented, some of them will take a bit time. Lets show users whats going on. Ability for adding flag types should be based on user type (Blender Network status probably).

Developers can add:

  • Invalid (For tasks impossible to implement or not fit blender purpose)
  • Todo (Indication for others that task is generally useful and fit into blender but developer don't want to implement it by himself)
  • Planed (If developer want to implement feature or know that other developer is going to work on it soon)
  • In Progress (task is under active development)
  • Completed

All users can add:

Voting on some flagged proposals should be blocked as it wont change anything. Those are: In Progress, Completed, Invalid. After task got one of this flags upvote points return to users.

100%

Development Status: Done

The incomplete flag (or tag... haven't decided on the term yet) is definitely something I'm interested in adding. The other tags are possible, but that also involves treating developers as a specific class of user on this site and I'm not sure if that's something I necessarily want to do. Any one of us could be a developer at some point, just like any current developer could stop making contributions. It's just me managing this right now, so keeping track of who is and who isn't a developer is a bit more than I think I want to do.

However, during the Blender Podcast, Campbell brought up the notion of introducing a URL field where a proposal here could be linked to an official design task on developer.blender.org . If the proposal has a design task, then we know it's being worked on in some official capacity. I think I prefer that approach.

Perfect, I totally agree with your vision. I believe that to treat developers and equally contributes to see the actual interest in a feature, even when its impossible or doesn't fit Blender purpose.

A user could just don't upvote a feature tagged as impossible, when this vote could contribute to increase development interest in finding alternatives. Or even to indicate a need to adapt the Blender purpose.
