Proposal: Snap With: CLOSEST TO INDIVIDUAL ELEMENT

When we use snap to do retopology we activate the "Face" option in the "Snap To" section and then we activate the "Closest" option in the "Snap With" section.

The Problem: This is great for moving the vertices that are between us and the model. But we can't move vertices that are behind the model because those vertices would be snapped to the faces that are CLOSEST TO US/ THE SCREEN.

The Proposal: What if there was a "Closet to Individual Element" option in the "Snap With" section? This would make the vertices snap to the target that are closest to it, and not to us or the screen. This would be awesome to extrude or just move entire loops across an arm or a leg, for example.

Obs.: I am aware of the Shrink Wrap Modifier workflow and I use it along with the snap option. But the Shrink Wrap makes the process less precise. I believe that this option would facilitate a lot the process.

I am not a developer so I don't know if it is possible. But maybe it is just a few lines of coding.

Retopo Flow. And this thing still have limitations.

Modifier has clear snapp target. In not modifier workflow, when you want just start transform and snap to something, there are number of uncleared questions. To what you want to snap? Base mesh can be some complex, different objects, layered thing.

It looks cool on your very simplified picture. But in potential range of possible real life cases it won't work as expected ....

Agree. Usualy we use shrinkwrap modifier, that have lot of options, how to snap.

* @ Vyacheslav * Not only it has a lot of options as the process become less precise because we actually edit the original object and not the modified resoult.

I think, topic should be named «snap to closest» Now we have two parts: snap with and snap to. Also it is better to post such proposals into devtalk forum about snapping upgrade.
