Tab Categories!

the sidebar improvement in Blender are much welcome, but the issue with having so many tabs after installing addons is not fixed yet, making the whole UI feel like an afterthought.

It would be great if Blender introduces a system in which we can create categories where we select the tabs that we want to display in the side panel.

As a suggestion, an Icon to display a dropdown list with the created categories can be added on the top-right corner, with an option also to navigate those categories via a pie menu.

My workaround for now to reduce clatter is having multiple Workspaces, with each workspace having different addons activated in the filter, but this is messy and harder to manage.

Better yet: let the user customize the tabs and panels. Some addon add this functionality manually for their panels, it would save a lot of efforts and headaches if it was possible with no extra work from each individual addon dev.

The addons I'm aware of that help with this issue are:

  • Simple Tabs (free)
  • Clean Panels (paid)
  • Panel SubTabs (paid)
  • Horizon Panels (paid)

One of these addon developers has seemingly downvoted my request xD Anyways, I haven't tried all of them, but as long as such a feature is not in Vanilla, I feel that these addons are prone to breaking my Sidebar, to causing performance drop, and they might require time-consuming maintenance (ex: when updating them) which makes them not worth the effort.
