Faster Grid Size aka Unit Scale
I love working in real world scales. Now for me the problem is that to change the grid and units, I have to do it in two different places and remember strange values, like 0.001, to set for example millimeters.
Why can’t combine “Viewport Overlays → Guides → Scale” and “Scene → Unit Metrics” into one field?
PS. – It would be useful to add a field “Default object size”. Now the object is either too huge or very small. I would like to control this.
Ableton has a good solution. There is always the size of the grid you are working on in the corner and you can easily change it there.

What option do you mean with
Unit Metrics? Are you referring toUnit SystemorUnit Scale?I find it hard to answer this question, I don’t know the terms. I write more from the perspective of an ordinary user (me)
I meant that it is much more convenient to write 1 mm instead of 0.001 to change the grid size. I think it would be more convenient for the user if such calculations were done automatically.
Sorry for my bad English, I use a translator :')
I'm referring to Blender's settings in
Scene > Units. You referred toUnit Metrics, but there are only settings calledUnit SystemandUnit Scale.I can get into that, but as the description of the setting says, it's a multiplier (which has no unit).
By the way, both settings you wanted to fuse do something different:
3D Viewport > Viewport Overlays > Guides > Scaleis purely visually changing the guides you see;Properties > Scene > Units > Unit Scaleis for actually "remapping" the currently selectedUnit System, althus changing all object's size and position (as far as I know, it's a multiplier too). Thanks, it's clean.
My suggestion is to simplify the system for users and hide this multiplier inside Blender, and use simple values instead. →
bad: 0.005, 0.01 good: 5 mm, 1 cm
Now, to change the grid size, I have to strain my brain. And I would just like to write the value I need. imgur.com/a/SU86UIe
I get why you want it to be this way, but as I've said, it's a multiplier and therefore doesn't have a unit. Hence inputting units won't work.
The scaling (the multipliers) depend on the currently set
Unit System, another reason why this will fail.Ah, I finally get it. Thank you! Sad :(
