Have measure tool provide a preference for feet and inches.
Would be nice if the measure tool provided a preference for feet and inches read out.
Perhaps in the preferences there could be a parameter for setting at what tolerance the dimension shows on the screen.
Tolerances like (1/16, 1/8, 1/4, or 1/2), for example.

The Measure tool is linked to your scene's Unit System. By default it is Metric, Change it to Imperial to show feet and inches. Though maybe the measure tool could use a scene unit override option...
EDIT: Sorry, I misunderstood what you were proposing. I'll leave the above statements for searching purposes, but otherwise ignore this post.
I suggested many changes around measure blender.community/c/rightclickselect/
There is other solution where this can be easy implemented in addon Quick Measure pro, or Measurable. I more believe changes in blenderbim than here.
