Problems with the new mix node

I personally like the idea of combining the mix nodes into one all-purpose mix node, but there are a few problems with it.

Firstly, when you change the mix type (float, vector, color), all the input connections are cut. This gets really frustrating after a while when you keep having to reconnect nodes.

Secondly, why isn't the mix shader node incorporated into the new mix node? I feel like if there's gonna be a combined mix node, all the old mix nodes should be incorporated.

Thirdly, when you search for "mix" in the shader editor, the different mix types should be available to add, instead of adding a mix node and then having to change it to color or vector. This isn't that big of a problem, but it would be a simple time-saving change. They could show up as mix color, mix vector, and mix float.

(EDIT): I just looked and if you do shift a and go to color, the mix color node is there. But when you search its not there. :(

What boggles my mind is that in shader editor, "color" mix mode should be the first available by default as it always was. But now I have to change it from "float" to "color" every single time I want to mix textures, which is highly annoying.

I have been doing Ctrl+RighClick drag to mix 2 things together for so long that I didn't use the search bar for a long time. Just recently I searched MIX but couldn't find the one I was looking for... then I realized they changed it to be a single node. It is really annoying.

I agree the reconnecting is a pain. From a dev's perspective, it's either cut all the input connections, or to keep them and throw warnings if any type conversions fail. They have some of the latter working for geometry nodes, but not sure if that's the case for shaders. So there may be more work there than expected, depending on what connection validation is already setup.

I quite agree, it's a pain to have to reconnect the nodes each time you change the type of variables, for the rest I think Blender should have a much more intelligent search system than it is today, it deserved a dedicated post.

Totally agreed with all, I miss the old mix node. also switching A and B disconnect the other which is really annoying. I understand alt key will do but I use alt for other keymap

You are doing such great work- thank you!! I would like to be able to search for „mix color“ and the mix node mode switches directly to color- would that be possible?
