set orign feedback
Suddenly realized, why can't I directly set the selected point as the origin of the object by pressing shift+s in editing mode? Then just add the simulator directly. If that's the case, the workflow would be much simpler. Thank you! The current way to set the origin is to first swipe the cursor in the edit mode shift+s, then tab back to the object mode, and then right-click - Set Origin - Origin to Geometric Center. To be honest, it's a bit cumbersome. I hope to add an option in the pie chart menu of shift+s in editing mode to set the currently selected vertex as the object origin

The same I've been thinking like for the past two years. I don't get it. Maybe it's for technicalities of the code, I don't know... But I agree. This should exist. The amount of time I lose doing this operation is insane, specially when rigging and I have to do it like 10 -20 times
I think this criticism is perfectly valid. The answer to why you can't do this in edit mode makes sense from a technical perspective, but often the user does not care about this fact, and simply wants their workflow to be as smooth as possible without a seemingly semantic rule stopping them from doing something this simple. I don't blame anyone for that.
The simple explanation is that the origin point is not stored on the Data level (which is exclusively what you are editing in edit mode, e.g. the mesh data), but it is stored on the Object level, hence why you need to go into object mode.
This is not a criticism, but a suggestion. I hope you can improve it. That's strange. The Machin3Tools plugin should also be able to do it in your situation. Currently, even if the origin is not stored at the Data level, the Machin3Tools plugin can still set the selected point as the object origin by shifting+s in edit mode. However, I don't understand programming very well,
I'm not a developer, just a user that likes to understand how Blender works :) Yes, it is technically possible to do it in edit mode, as demonstrated by addons. But the reason I am guessing why the developers don't implement this, is because of convention and consistency. It doesn't make logistical sense to change the origin point in edit mode, for the reasons I described previously. But on the other hand, this is a bit of a workflow issue/annoyance.
It's just something for the designers/developers to think about: the balance between fast workflow and consistency.
Uh huh, but how could it be meaningless? The workflow has been simplified, and this is a commonly used operation. If it's not commonly used, I won't talk about it
?
I didn't say anything was meaningless.
Sorry, maybe I misread it?
It's very cumbersome! Machin3Tools addon has an Origin pie menu that has "Set origin to [whatever component is selected]" and it makes setting origin extremely fast. It should be part of Shift+S by default.
thank you!!! Yes, it's really troublesome. I tried it and the M3 plugin does have this feature, which can be used normally. If I had used it earlier, I don't know how much trouble I would have saved
