3d viewport background transparency
Could we have a feature such as ZBrush see-through mode? This would allow us to model on top of 2d sketches. Also if we could have just the 3d view background transparent, and the objects solid, that would be great.

It will be amazing specially if blender want to compet with zbrush !
I recently came across some more use cases for this which are basically based on the fact that the eevee viewport is usually fast enough for rendering real time content (like real time visualizations on top of some other content that would be presented below blender's window) and I have just started to have even another use case in which I could benefit if I could overlay blender's viewport window over some other applications window which are able to communicate to each other using some python script, where in the end blender's viewport camera matches the camera position of the other application while I'm able to interactively move the blender camera and animate it using blender's keyframes.
Example use case: youtu.be/n20ROfq6lEo - just imagine the blender window could be used in full size with the background transparent as well.
I guess there are actually many more potential but undiscovered use cases for this.
I think what @ptrmaimik says is to pin an image to the viewport. The same like the camera background image feature, but without using a cam, directly to the viewport.
It sounds like you're asking to apply transparency to the entire Blender window itself so you can see other windows (like any arbitrary image editor or even a web browser with Google Images loaded in it. Is that right?
Technically, that's already possible now on Linux, depending on the window manager and compositing engine you use. Supporting something like that in Blender across multiple platforms would be tricky.
Note sure what you mean exaclty. I barely know zbrush and I guess a lot of people here don't use it often either.
From what I can understand, there might be some things already.
Like image empties, which can be displayed in front of your models with trasnparency: {attachment blender_Ikl7a234ZVpng}
Or use the xray mode: {attachment UE4Editor_e1tgSfmyLgpng}
As I remember - already proposed and no, not in plans. But I can be wrong.
To model on top of sketch it was number of avaliable technicks for Blender from simply import image as plane to special addons for image references. Google it and you get ton of info.
