vr controller as input without the headset ?

i love the idea of working with some kind of 3d tracked device but i hate having to put my headset on to draw

cant we just have a stationary camera on a standard screen that you could move with a button press ?

i would get input from custom made input device to work ?

i would love siting in bed and sculpting with just a pen in the air
