Lighting update proposition
Blender is becoming more and more popular in dozens of professions. It can certainly replace certain software. In my case, I use it to create lighting solutions.
On a daily basis, I use IES files to simulate the lighting of real lighting products.
I realized that the use was limited in blender. it would miss features essential for the good use.
here are the ideas that I submit to the community for an update on the lighting part.
-
IES SHAPE: like Dialux, Relux, 3DSMAX, Unreal Engine, etc., have a 3D representation of the light distribution in IES files. Some addons offer this function, but in my opinion it should be native to blender.
-
Lumen value: in lighting, when we talk about luminous power, it's often expressed in Lumen. The use of watts in blender doesn't seem to correspond to anything? Being able to choose between Watt and Lumen would be a good solution.
-
Temperature color (kelvin): when we talk about the color of a light (white), we express it in Kelvin. It would be interesting to have the choice of expressing it directly in Kelvin and not creating a Kelvin to RGB translation. I know that the Blackbody node exists, but wouldn't it be interesting to implement this natively in blender?
-
Normalization by color: it would be interesting to have a function that keeps the light intensity constant when changing the color of a light. Currently, blue, red seems much darker than white.
I also use the proposals made by Quentin Sanhes on “ projects.blender.org ” #136905
what do you think of these feature proposals?

could definitely imagine lumen and temp options being useful. Perhaps you could switch from watts/colour to lumen/kelvin via dropdowns, like the lens unit option on the camera to go from mm to FOV
