Suzanne as empty
It would be nice having a model really standing from all other shapes as an empty. Suzanne could really fill that niche. That way she could be a real workhorse (workmonkey?) instead of just serving as a test mesh.

Could you just set Suzanne to be non renderable, set it display as wireframe in the viewport, and use that?
Yes, I do that. But it is not as convenient or fun.
Sure, but I think we can all agree there are many other things that would be way more convenient and fun to have in Blender and that are more worthy of the trouble of a dev's work ;)
