moving the 3D cursor

I would find it useful if you could move the 3D cursor using keyboard shortcuts analogous to how you can move other entities. e.g. using G X 5 or G Z 10.

Following Branskugel's comment:

Found (part of) the answer: RTFM

Tool bar, cursor mode, left mouse button choose axis x y or z, type in distance.

Unfortunately, the cursor moves when first grabbing it and the keyboard input is thereby changed by this value.

Wouldnt be nice being also able to move the 3D cursor with the gizmo? Just like any other entity in Blender as you say. Being able to move it and rotate it with the gizmo would and the snapping possibilities would make life so much easier.

It is a bit weird to me the 3D cursor behaves differently than everything else.

This plugin allows what I am asking for: blendermarket.com/products/gizmo-3d-cursor

This is a dream. The 3D cursor being a full gizmo would be the best. Let's say I want to straigthen multiple edge loops in a direction. I could align the 3D cursor perfectly and do the scale in the right direction. Would be super useful.

it will great if both axis constraint and snapping work together for moving 3d cursor.

Branskugel

You can already do that, with some limitations though. Use shift+right mouse button drag (depends on your keymap) to drag the 3d cursor, release shift and use usual axis constraints and numeric values if you want. I'd recommend editing the proposal if that doesn't suffice you and you want different behavior/more functionality.

Thanks for the useful info. I didn't know this. It would even better if the action could be accomplished using purely keyboard input though.

I can't find a way to make this work with right click select though :-(

That's what keymapping is for. I have mine set to Alt V.

Thanks for the reply but remapping the key does not provide the functionality that I described.
