Difference of Gaussians filter in the compositor

I've been loving the Kuwahara filter, and because of it I have discovered that the compositor is great as a pure image processor outside of 3d rendering.

Diving into the world of image stylizing I stumbled upon the "Difference of Gaussians" (DOG) filter, which in its most basic implementation is achievable in the compositor with an image plugged into two Gaussian blurs and subtracting the result, which gives interesting results, including a sort of edge filter.

I stumbled upon this video which explores more advanced and tweakable version of this filtering technique: youtube.com/watch .

There seems to be some overlap between this filtering technique and the Kuwahara filter, as well as it using the Sobel operator, which is already a part of the "Filter" node.

I believe implementing a dedicated DOG filter with tweakable parameters would open up even more options for stylizing renders and video in the compositor.

Im also wondering how to do this, the blender defalt blur doesn't allow for changes in blur size/kernel size and there isn't a convolution matrix thing, maybe changing the size in the blur node could do something

update: just tested the blur size thing, it works, I hope it helps

oh, I just realized how long ago this post was, anyway, thanks for the idea
