Make Links > Modifiers should actually created a shared relationship instead of just copying settings.
Rename this to "Object > Modifiers > Copy Modifiers from Active".
Create a new feature that actually creates a live connection between the modifiers of the active object and the other objects.
When you go to the modifiers tab of the other objects it will say something like "This object's modifiers are shared with 8 other objects. Changes made here will also affect the 8 other objects"
OR have a button that does something like "switch to the object that has actual modifiers that this object is inheriting from"
I've seen many C4D users complain that there is no sensible way to have multiple objects all share the identical subdivision settings.

Sorry to necro-post but I would definitely like to have true, linked/inherited modifiers as a feature. My current project, though small, has several dozen linked duplicates of a particular object all over the place, each one bearing the same modifiers.
Since they all must be identical, I use drivers to sync some of their modifiers' parameters from a bunch of World-level Custom Properties. This does work pretty well, but honestly it's a kludge, since drivers seem to be aimed at animations, of which this project has none.
And, well, it also means that every single duplicated object has copies of the drivers the original used. They're all really simple (summing a couple of variables here, a multiply there, nothing fancy), but surely it adds up.
Such a feature should also allow the user to add local modifiers to one or more duplicates, and intermix them freely before/after/within the stack of inherited modifiers, in the inevitable event that one of the duplicates needs some special handling/tweaks.
"Copy Modifiers" actually is "Replace Selected object(s) modifiers from active" ! There should be both "copy/add" and "copy/Replace" in the menu.
I have also filed bug report where ctl-C copy modifiers doesn't copy the parameters and end up with only the defaults, making it rather useless.
Yeah, having to re-copy the modifiers/settings often can be annoying. One workaround/hack is to put the object into a collection and then instance that collection. I think it will then live update. But still not always ideal/what you want.
Hahaha, the only way I've found to link modifiers is with custom properties and drivers. It took FOREVER... An easy command to link modifiers would be very helpful. Making drivers quicker to set up would be a nice solution too.
* @qwertquart * I started trying to do it with drivers the other day. Got about 5 letters into a word and gave up and posted this.
