Motion Graphics Workspace and Improvements Proposal
Heavily inspired by my past experience with After Effects, here are my proposed changes.
͟ ͟O͟u͟t͟l͟i͟n͟e͟ ͟E͟d͟i͟t͟o͟r͟,͟ ͟ ͟S͟c͟e͟n͟e͟ ͟M͟o͟d͟e͟ ͟ ͟(͟b͟l͟u͟e͟)͟:͟ ͟ ͟ sequences or media sources bin
- Right-Click over sequences to duplicate, delete, etc.;
- Drag & drop media files from the file browser to the outliner, and from the outliner to the sequencer editor;
͟ ͟V͟i͟d͟e͟o͟ ͟S͟e͟q͟u͟e͟n͟c͟e͟r͟ ͟E͟d͟i͟t͟o͟r͟,͟ ͟ ͟S͟e͟q͟u͟e͟n͟c͟e͟/͟P͟r͟e͟v͟i͟e͟w͟ ͟M͟o͟d͟e͟ ͟ ͟(͟r͟e͟d͟)͟:͟ ͟ ͟ canvas and properties editor
- 50% grey BG;
- Transform and crop tools, and transform cage on canvas (without needing a Transform Strip);
- Select strips directly on canvas (in case of overlap, cycle through them, just like when there's overlap in the 3D view);
- Text strip: select text file source (for subtitles, and for long and multi-line text);
͟ ͟V͟i͟d͟e͟o͟ ͟S͟e͟q͟u͟e͟n͟c͟e͟r͟ ͟E͟d͟i͟t͟o͟r͟ ͟ ͟S͟e͟q͟u͟e͟n͟c͟e͟r͟ ͟M͟o͟d͟e͟ ͟ ͟(͟g͟r͟e͟e͟n͟)͟:͟ ͟ ͟ sequences and keyframes editor
- Playback controls;
- Display keyframes below each corresponding strip in the timeline (like in the Timeline/Dope Sheet Editors);
Let me know what you think and how difficult do you think these changes are to make. Thanks for your time!

Here I share a screenshot on how a workspace with almost the same functionality (but less convenience) can be achieved currently in vanilla Blender (2.90 alpha):
With this fork of the Transform Tools add-on you'll get the Transform options in the Sequencer Preview Toolbar: github.com/tin2tin/VSE_Transform_Tools
And with the "Sync Visible Functions" you can have the VSE play in sync with other editors:
And we wait for the Asset Manager to deal with the footage sorting.
* @ tintwotin * That's so awesome! 😍 Thanks a lot for this impressively fast work you made! Can we download the whole repo or must we download the addon from the Releases page? PS: This needs to be part of the official addons! 😁
* @Andy Cuccaro * Download this and install it: github.com/tin2tin/VSE_Transform_Tools/archive/master.zip
