Rx 580 Support

Add rx 580 for the next blender version, please, you guys said you were working on it 2 years ago!! You prefer to use the cpu that takes ages to render something instead of the piece of hardware that was made for this job? its not a matter of age, my cpu is way older than the graphics card but it works!! takes 12 hours to do something but works.

Officially, the minimum requirement for AMD GPU to use Blender is anything using GCN1 architecture or newer (1). RX 580 is GCN4 (2), so you should be able to run Blender with no issues. When it comes to GPU rendering with Cycles, officially you need a Vega architecture or newer (3). But there are benchmarks done on RX 580 since v3.0 (4), so even if it isn't supported officially, it might work anyway. You might need the Pro driver for it though. And definitively the latest drivers you can have.

  2. List of AMD graphics processing units - Wikiwand
  3. GPU Rendering — Blender Manual
  4. Blender - Open Data

For HIP to work with older GPUs, I guess that would be up to AMD more than Blender, it's their software and hardware. Blender didn't drop OpenCL support on a whim.

That card is 6 years old. It's time to either upgrade your hardware, or be satisfied running an older version of blender.
