Shape key Modifier
I was wondering if there was a shape key modifier which deform mesh by it's shape keys it was possible to animate two or more objects with linked mesh data, separately. currently if two object share same mesh data they also share shape key animation whether in the same scene or multiple scenes. with shape key modifier we can have multiple characters with linked data that can be edited and refined simultaneously because of the linked data but have separate shape key animation.

(Don't consider the add and remove shape key buttons in the image, only a deform modifier)

I imagine this or something very like this will be possible with everything nodes. I agree this is a good idea, but it's actually a bit tricky to do. What about modifiers that change topology? The shape key modifier would always have to go before them.
* @Josephbburg * yes that's right, it can operate on base level just like current shape key system as a proxy to keep separate animation data.
