Spring loaded hotkeys
Ability to press and hold a hotkey to temporarily enable the functionality while having another tool active. This type of interaction with hotkeys will allow switching between different tools to be smoother. The functionality is already exposed for temporarily enabling snapping by holding Ctrl and moving a vertex, my suggestion is to enable it (or at least add an option for enabling it) for all hotkeys set.
Spring loaded hotkeys are used in Photoshop and Modo already.

Almost all 3D apps I use can do that, except blender. It's a shame.
BUT, the good news is, there was some development in this area and they almost did it, but unfortunately the project seems dead now... developer.blender.org/D7055
