Video tracking add option to deinterlace video frame

Original movies are sometimes interlaced, meaning alternate horizontal scanlines are visible on a frame-by-frame basis.

Some cameras use this format by default. To improve workflow and preserve video quality, it would be beneficial to have a deinterlacing option within Blender, possibly using common filters.

While open-source deinterlacing solutions like AviSynth exist, integrating them into a workflow with customer videos can be cumbersome. Implementing this feature directly in Blender would significantly streamline the process and maintain the original movie's quality before final rendering.

This improvement shouldn't be too challenging to implement, given the existing open-source deinterlacing technologies available. deinterlace.png

Working with interlaced footage normally isn't the case anymore, so imo it would just make the UI more cluttered and the UX more confusing.

Maybe the tool can instead be developed as an extension? Otherwise I'd recommend that you de-interlace your footage first in an external program, and then load that into blender.

Since... what year?

I haven't had to deal with interlaced footage since around 2008.

I don't know of any modern camera that only records interlaced. You should switch it to shoot progressive. That will improve your final look far more than de-interlacing footage.

I've found VirtualDub2 to be an excellent solution for deinterlacing and stabilization, particularly when dealing with various video formats from different sources. While Blender is a powerful all-around tool, VirtualDub2 with Donald Graft's deshaker plugin offers superior technical performance and results, (no markers needed at all) for these specific tasks. Despite being an older program, its specialized plugins created by industry professionals deliver impressive results.

It's interesting to note that while VirtualDub2's development has slowed down (though the code remains available on Git), its capabilities in certain technical areas remain unmatched. It would be fascinating to see these powerful features somehow integrated into Blender's ecosystem in the future, combining VirtualDub2's technical excellence with Blender's comprehensive toolkit.
