Make Measure a Treasure
First time posting here.
I want to ask: Can we make the measure tool more useful? I would love to be able to use it for quick modeling of dimensioned objects. The tool reminds me of the tape measure tool in SketchUp but it is missing some key functionality that would make it really powerful. Here is a list of things that I think could be really useful:
The ability to reference the measurements as modeling guides. I would love to be able to add a measurement and then snap to the line that I created while modeling.
Visibility controls. I would love to be able to turn the measurements on and off while modeling and sculpting. It would allow you to get a sense of scale while adding and editing geometry.
Editing tools for measurements. It would be great to be able to type in a dimension and have the measurement snap to that length or angle so that you can reference it while modeling. It would also be great to be able to quickly select measurements in the same way you select as line, vertex or UV face group. It would make deleting errant measurements so much easier!
Angle snapping. In technical drawing you often use 'construction lines' to transfer dimensions between objects. These need to be parallel to allow you to reference dimensions in orthographic views. It would be great to be able to press Shift to enable angle snapping to create level and vertical lines. Adding in snapping options to other increments would be great too. 15d, 30d, 45d, 60d are all incredibly useful, like the triangles you use while drafting by hand.
Infinite guide line. AutoCAD has a 'construction lines' feature that works really well. Adobe Illustrator also has a pretty good implementation of this feature. I would be great to see something like this come to blender where you could draw a line for snapping to the world origin x-y plane or to a specific height datum. You can already do it with the vertex snapping, but that feature could also use some work because it's a bit fiddly to adjust the settings to the coordinate system or reference system or object snap that you want to use, or turning x-ray on or off... The measure tool could be a great way to supplement the other snapping features that already work pretty well.
Offset measurements. That could be interpreted in a couple of ways, I think. Offsetting dimensions by copying them (like you would hold alt+LMB to duplicate and move in Rhinoceros or Illustrator) by pressing 'ctrl+D' like you do with modeling geometry. It might also be that you could draw a dimension and then be able to select it and move it to another part of the screen, snapping it to an active vertex maybe. Or maybe it could be you click and drag from an existing dimension like you do with aligned dimensions in AutoCAD. Basically, I want to be able to click on an object and set a dimension from that object so that I can then place something at that distance away from the object. If that makes sense...
Just some ideas! I would love to see this feature get better because I think it's the main thing that is missing when you come from a program like SketchUp or Rhinoceros or AutoCAD or Revit (etc.). Difficulty with precise, dimensioned modeling was the main thing that stopped me from using Blender while I was in architecture school. This might be the completely wrong forum for a suggestion like this but like I said, I'm new! Maybe someone could pass these suggestions along to the right place or let me know where it needs to go. I would love to hear some other ideas or it a tool like this already exists in Blender or as an Add-on I would love to know about it. Learning Blender has been so much fun I can't wait to see where it goes in the future.
Thanks!

I support this feature too. current measure tool is so inefficient that i hardly use. in autocad or sketchup it used to be one of the most used tools, because they worked really well.
Vote some of posts, there are many ideas blender.community/c/rightclickselect/ZzWw/
Maybe the only thng is the angle mesurement, set start and middle point, then the second end point, the mesuring of bevel radius (maybe snap on the intersection of two points, first and last point of the bevel) and a kind snap functionality by default to do it like in sketchup for the Mesure Tool?
Maybe more importent might be the dimensioning toolkit with arrows, tollerances etc. to write mesures to a modle on a technical drawing and select the standart and the symbolset, not only an offset. Might be usefull for small technical drawings and 3D Prints also for Machine and Architektual Visualisations to simply Visualize mesurements on render or in viewport. btw. maybe a Blueprint only edge view render with messurements might be usefull als well... maybe a kind of crosshatching and line styles to render CAD drawings for machining... render mode in Wireframe...
ok it might be more for the functionallity, maybe a own mode and Windows layout on Startup like "CAD drawing 2D/3D" but at first a messuretool would be great.
